DETAILED INFORMATION ON SPU PROGRAMMES

  1. 1.REGISTRATION FOR EXAM:
  • Students shall be required to register for the university Examination in each course taken during the semester at least 6 weeks before the date of the commencement of the examinations.
  • All courses shall be examined within the semester in which they are taken.
  • No student shall be allowed to sit for an examination unless (s)he has duly registered for that exam.
  1. 2.LECTURE ATTENDANCE:
  • A student MUST attend at least 80% of the lecture, otherwise will not sit for the exams and subsequently not graduate.

 

  1. 3.EXAMINATIONS:
  • The final performance in any course shall determined by grades from both the continuous Assessment (CATs) and the end of semester exam, under the following weights:

Continuous Assessment 30%

Final University    70%

  • A student who fails to attempt all the continuous Assessment work wont be graded.
  • No student shall be eligible to sit for final exam unless (s)he:

(i)           Has paid his/her full fee

(ii)          Issued with an examination card.

  • The Examination Grading System shall be as under:

 

  1. Classification Percentage (%)
  2. Distinction 70 – 100
  3. Credit 50 – 69
  4. Pass 40 – 49
  5. 0 - 39

 

  • In order to proceed to the following year of study, a candidate must pass in all the subjects taken during the current year.
  1. 4.ADMISSION REQUIREMENT:

Those intending to seek admissions must meet the following criteria:

DIPLOMA:

  • A minimum KCSE Grade C- OR
  • “O” level DIV III with a minimum of 38 points with 5 credits, OR
  • ‘A’ level with 1 principal passes, OR
  • D+ in KCSE with additional 1 year relevant certificate, OR
  • Equivalent to the above qualifications as determined by SPU Senate.

CERTIFICATES:

  • KCSE D+

DURATION OF THE PROGRAMMES:

  • The duration of the diploma courses is 1 calendar year or 11/2 academic years or 3 semesters of 675 contact hours.
  • The duration of the certificate courses is 1 Academic year or 2 semesters each of 15 weeks.
  1. 5.CREDIT TRANSFERS:
  • Credit transfers of above C in relevant subjects from recognized institutions is permissible.


ATTACHMENT:

All diploma students shall be required to go for a 2 months attachment in order to acquire hands on experience in their field of study.

PROGRESSION ROUTES:

  • A diploma graduate shall be eligible to enroll for a degree course at St. Paul’s University or any other University of choice.
  • A certificate graduate shall be eligible to enroll course in relevant areas.
