Investors to benefit from micro-finance awards

Kenyan investors in micro-finance industry are among the global investors to benefit from a the Micro-Entrepreneurship Awards slated for December.


The awards, through a partnership between Citibank and the Association of Microfinance Institutions of Kenya (Amfi), will bring together 53 institutions to present their businesses for assessment by experts.

“The event will highlight the achievements of some of the most innovative micro entrepreneurs in Kenya,” said Citibank chief executive Dan Connelly. The awards will take place in more than 30 countries worldwide. The winner will bag Sh4.2 million after the competition and judging process end on December 6. Judges will be seeking various aspects of a prudent micro-finance growth in an institution, including its profitability, innovation and employment opportunities.

The award was introduced by Citibank in 28 countries last year to highlight the significance of microfinance as a tool for fighting poverty. The platform is used to recognise and honour micro entrepreneurs who have overcome challenges in building self-sustaining MFIs, creating employment and contributing meaningfully to their communities
